How to Install Newest Libre Office 4.0 on Fedora?

The Document Foundation has announced to release Libre Office 4.0 as the newest version on February 7, 2013. It offers you some bugs fixing that were found in the previous version. The developers stated that some new features are embedded on this current version. Our previous review explained you that the 4.0 release candidate was offered to be tested on January 2013. Finally users can download the stable of 4.0 version. We have also written the guide to install Libre Office 4 on Ubuntu and Linux Mint. This tutorial helps you to install Libre Office 4.0 on Fedora distribution.

The integration of Libre Office appearance and Mozilla Firefox's persona is one of the best features on the GUI for this version. It allows you to customize the GUI by adding the Firefox persona into you office. It makes the office looks diffrent according to your wishes by adding persona. Some other improvements on the user interface are offered as well on this version. Basically the developer has migrated the application to the new GTK+ 3 based lay out toolkit.

One of the interesting development is related to image rendering in all branch of the Libre. Users now easily can rotate and crop the images embedded on the documents. The images library is designed as well to be easier to perform images searching and selection.

Since this newest version is not added into repository yet, you need to manually install it into your system. You can download RPM installer on this site. You need to access the terminal as root to install this application. After downloading the installer, follow these instruction to complete installation:

To execute the installer files, go the the directory where you have extracted the zipped installer files. Enter to your default directory where the installer is stored. The name of the directory is actually different according to your computer name.  But you can seen this sample:

cd /home/ossdoc/Downloads/LibreOffice_4.0.0.3_Linux_x86_rpm/RPMS/

Once you have entered the RPMS directory, run this command:

rpm -ivh *rpm

The installation process will begin after you run this command. It will automatically install the package into your system. After finishing the first step, you need to integerate Libre Office with your desktop. To do this step, you need to enter to desktop-integeration folder. Run the same command type to enter to this directory and then run another command to execute rpm installer files. See the sample below:

cd /home/ossdoc/Downloads/LibreOffice_4.0.0.3_Linux_x86_rpm/RPMS/desktop-integeration
rpm -ivh *rpm

In some cases, the problem occurs on this installation steps. You will find some error notification. The system will tell you that some dependencies conlict other rpm files. To solve this problem, you can see the list of files in desktop-integration directory. Actually, there are some diffrent files are provided on this folder for other distribution, such as Open Suse and Mandriva (eg: libreoffice4.0-mandriva-menus-4.0.0-103.noarch.rpm and libreoffice4.0-suse-menus-4.0.0-103.noarch.rpm). To solve the error  you can delete these two files the try to run the "rpm -ivh *rpm" command once more. To help you for deleting the the files, both for Mandriva or Open Suse, you can use the file manager to make you easier to delete them. Another way to solve this conflict is using the command to install the specific file, see the box below:

rpm -Uvh libreoffice4.0-freedesktop-menus-4.0.0-103.noarch.rpm.

After finishing all steps, you will now have Libre Office 4 on your Fedora system. Enjoy the new experiences to use this newest version.
