Netbeans 7.3 Installation on Fedora 17/18 and CentOS/RHEL 6.3/5.8

Oracle has just released Netbeans 7.3 as the newest version. As the previous version which is compiled in one package with Java Development Kit (JDK), this version offers some new features and more stability along the working time. Netbeans actually is commonly known among the software programmers. It is a powerful code writer  application to simplify the writing process. Using the smart system, it helps users to automatically get the code suggestions. Based on Java, this application can be installed or runs on the various operating system, such as many Linux distro, Mac OS and Windows as well. Oracle has provided the installer for those operating system.


The major function of Netbeans is to help programmers to develop rapidly the web, mobile applications, desktop and web-based application as well. It offers flexibility to users for using several different platform, such as PHP, JavaScript, Ruby, Ajax and JavaFX.

What News on the 7.3 version?
Based on the official statements, Netbeans 7.3 offers you these new features:


  • Rich Web applications (HTML5, JavaScript, CSS)
  • Extended clipboard and refactoring improvements in Java Editor
  • JavaTM SE Development Kit 7 Update 13 support
  • Full support of JavaFX 2.2.5 SDK
  • Support for JavaME SDK 3.2

This article will guide you the method to install Netbeans on Fedora 17/18 and  CentOS/RHEL 6.3/5.8.  To start installing it, you need to download the installer package from the official homepage here. Choose the suitable version for your operating system.


Once you finished downloading the file, use your terminal to execute installation.

1. Login as root
su -
or
sudo -i
2. Change file permission
You can change the permission to be executable using this command:
chmod +x FileName
see this sample:
chmod +x netbeans-7.3linux.sh 
3. Run the installer
you can run installer by adding the "./" code before the name files on terminal. see this sample:
./netbeans-7.3linux.sh
once you execute, the installation will start. Follow the instruction until finished. You need to apply some TOS to finish it.
