Finally, Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) has been released today. It comes with some new features and enhancement and some important performance improvement. This article describes you some new features on this stable Ubuntu version.

Default Ubuntu 13.04 Applications

Instead of Libre Office, there are several default applications automatically installed as default on  Ubuntu 13.04. Some default application of the previous version has been removed. Nautilus and Totem 3.6 are available for this version. Ubuntu continues using Gnome 3.6 for this version for the most part.

For details, the applications installed as default on Ubuntu 13.04 version, including: Totem Videos 3.6.3; Gedit 3.6.2; Remmina 1.0.0; Rythmbox 2.98; Gnome controller center 3.6.3; Firefox 20.0; GTK 3.6.4.

Ubuntu developers has done a great job to create the stable version of Ubuntu. The use of memory to run this version is significantly reduced.  As the result from the hard works, developers improve significantly the performance of this version. As note: Ubuntu reduce maintenance period of this version from 18 to 9 months.

Ubuntu Raring Ringtail use kernel 3.8.0-19-29 Ubuntu Linux Kernel. It is based on the upstream 3.8.8 Linux Kernel. For me, the performance of Ubuntu 13.04 so far is good and stable. As long as I try this stable version, I think that 13.04 is more stable compared to the previous one.
